Ella Andrews, Guest Writer Moving is a challenging task that only gets tougher if you have pets that will have to move with you. If you think that you are the only one that will be stressed during the move, you are wrong. Pets, especially dogs, can easily read your mood and what you are feeling, which can transfer all of the stress on them. It is important to keep calm and plan everything in advance. You have likely read a good deal of information on how to organize a move and how to hire a moving company. You know that the most important thing is to give yourself enough time to execute the move and never leave anything for the last day. Well, this advice is even more important when it comes to moving with your furry friends. There are 3 stages of the process that you should familiarize yourself with in order to have a successful and less stressful move. 1) Before the move – take your time to visit the new place a few times with your furry friend. This is especially true if you have a dog. This will introduce them to the new environment that they will soon be in. That way when the relocation is done, your pet will at least have an idea of the new place. Acquire a collar tag with enough information about your new address and contacts. You should do this to be safe in case your pet escapes during your move. If you are going to move your pet in a carrier, make sure you introduce them to the item first. Pets will feel really anxious about going in a carrier at first, so you will have to gradually work towards the goal of making them feel comfortable inside one. Put their food bowl near the carrier, and move it closer and closer every day till you can finally place it inside. This will make your pet feel secure inside the carriage and not stress around it. Also introduce the pet to moving boxes, as soon enough your home will be occupied by them. Every strange object, especially in large quantities, will stress your pet, so bring a few boxes home long before you call the movers. 2) On the day of the move – your pet will likely get uncomfortable with unfamiliar people constantly walking in and out of your home to load the boxes on the moving van. For this reason on moving day you should keep your pet in one of the rooms so that they avoid all of the hustle. Make sure you visit regularly to keep them calm. Pay attention to your pet and it will feel secure and less anxious. 3) After the move – your pet will likely be stressed from the new environment and from spending time on the road on the way to your new home. For this reason keep your pet indoors the first few days. Removals do not end with reaching your new destination. You will still have to unpack and organize your new home. Pets may find it difficult to fit in while all of this is going on, so make sure at least their routine is back as soon as possible – feeding and play time, anything you used to do in your old home with your pet.If you truly love your furry friend, you should make sure you consider all of this in order to experience a move free of stress.
