Loading and Unloading Tips for Big or Heavy Items

  • Use different size boxes, which will definitely help you to select the right items and objects for each specific box. Select a box that is big enough to fit the item, but has a little extra room for stuffing in packing paper or other padding. In this way, you will reduce the chance of turning, rolling, or displacing any of the big heavy items inside the box. For example, while handled by two, three, or more men.
Picture
  • Supply your helpers with gloves for heavy lifting. This small yet important part ensures an easy and smooth loading of the moving van, as well as facilitate the handling of big objects with sharp edges like wooden pieces of furniture or big machines along steep stairs and narrow doors.
  • Put any kind of light soft object inside the empty void spaces of the big furnishings. One, you will save extra space from another separate box only for blankets, curtains, shoes, etc. Two, you can use these light materials like wrappings or sealers to make the moving boxes tighter and stronger.
  • Protect the edges of big mirrors, paintings, chairs, tables and other big wooden objects. The mirror boxes moving blankets, and paper padding can ensure that the object has little contact with the floor and therefore they reduce the chance of scratches or other imperfections on the beautiful wooden surfaces.
  • The biggest and heaviest pieces of furniture should be dismantled first and then arranged in boxes or properly wrapped. Yes, it may take a few hours more for dismantling, but it's easier to handle a giant bed when it's taken apart, for example. Also, some big furniture objects can pass through doors and staircases only when dismantled. Our crews can also dismantle most furniture, if you would prefer.
  • Inspect the route to the front door of your new house for any imperfections like bumps, stairs, fallen branches, etc. Try to memorize the exact locations of these imperfections or make a quick drawing of the route. Thus, your helpers can easily spot the milestones and decide what to do in order to avoid them. The same applies for the route to the removal truck and the front door of your old house. Especially if it passes through a garden with bushes and treetops or it's bounded by a fence, kid's playground, etc.

  • When loading the moving truck, you probably want to begin with the biggest and heaviest boxes. Hire a truck with two, three, or more men (sometimes you need more helpers for truly big house removals). Their professional experience and advice are indispensable for loading and unloading the moving truck.
  • If you're doing everything by yourself and taking advantage of only a truck, make sure to make the moving boxes as light as possible. Big, heavy furnishings are quite overwhelming to handle, but you can deal with it if you get yourself boxes with handles on two of it's sides and stronger bottoms. If needed, wrap all the sides of the boxes with packaging tape to make them even stronger.
  • Another main option for handling big, heavy items is to use moving blankets when placing them in the moving van. It is easier to handle furniture when it is wrapped in blankets because they conform to the shape of the furniture.
  • There are many different types of vans and even huge removal trucks, and it's essential to hire the right van, not the biggest one. Stroll through your removal company's site and take a look at each of their vans advantages. For instance, you may want to hire a van with a rear hydraulic ramp for easy lifting of the big removals, instead of a huge van with a sliding door. Some trucks have wheel wells that invade the cargo space and can get in the way of large furniture items. Be sure to get a truck that is both large enough to load all of your items, but has features that are suitable to your needs.

Moving and Your Parents

Moving Back in with your Parents
Moving can be a stressful time for anyone, but it can be made more difficult by the embarrassment you may feel. Moving back in with your parents is usually a financial decision that can come from divorce, loss of employment, or amassed debt. You might be feeling like a failure or that you're letting your parents down, but many times parents like to help their children, see it as another chance to forge a close relationship to their child, or are looking forward to having help around the house. Try to see it as a mutually beneficial situation and chip in wherever you can.

It is important to know the ground rules of living back home. If your parents would like to know if you're going to be late for dinner, be sure to call them. Be aware that parents are sometimes prone to falling back into their old routines. If they start treating you like you're a teenager all over again, one of two things is wrong. Either you are behaving like a naughty teenager; leaving your dirty clothes for mom to wash, sitting watching cable all day, and skipping out on chores any chance you get. Then, you're the problem and you should put in some effort. Or your parents haven't gotten used to the idea that you're an adult and are capable of making wise decisions on your own. In this case, you may want to sit down with your parents and be more specific on your boundaries.

Spend quality time with your parents. Doing activities with them can help to create a relationship that feels less like a tenant living in their house and more like a roommate. You want to keep a balanced relationship. Don't spend too many nights out and set aside time for them.

Parents Moving in with You
There comes a time in almost every person's life where they become too frail to manage their home alone. This is usually when their children begin to consider how they are going to care for their parents. Sometimes their children decide that the best way to care for their parents is to have them move in with the family. Their care is sometimes performed with the help of in-home nurses or by the family itself.Care s
hould be taken to make the transition easy on your parents. The loss of their independence can be devastating, but there are also many things that can help them look forward to it and feel important.
  • They can spend more time with their grandchildren. Grandparents often have loads of affection for the youngest generation in their family. You can help by setting aside days in your kid's schedules to spend an afternoon with Grandma. Or try involving them in family outings or events.
  • Have your parents help you where they can. This is a great way to make them feel like less of a burden and give them value. Ask them advice. They often have 20+ years more life experience than you and may know many things about relationships, gardening, remodeling houses, cars, or any number of other subjects. This can also lead to bonding experiences, too. Let grandma help with dinner. Some of the best times I can remember in my family were days where it was 'all-hands-on-deck' in the kitchen.
  • Keep them involved. Let them have a say in major decisions around the household and listen to their input. Nobody likes to feel like their opinion doesn't matter. Have open discussions with them and they will feel like they have an important role in their family.

Moving into a Nursing Home
Making the decision to move an elderly family member into a nursing home or independent living facility can be one of the more challenging decisions of a person's adult life and can be stressful for everyone involved.
  • Try to explain your situation. If you have a busy career and can't be home to give them the proper care, let them know. Be understanding of their situation and try to avoid stubbornness in your attitude. They are a person with feelings too, hear them out.
  • Try to frame it as a possibility for new adventure in their life. Maybe they will meet new friends or have a chat with a handsome widower. Possibly the center has activities that appeal to them like swimming or crafts.
  • Their biggest fear is being left there alone. Tell them that you will come to visit them on a schedule and keep the promise. Seniors can feel incredibly lonely if you don't visit them enough. Show them some love and that they are an important part of your life!

Tips for a Stress-free Move

So it has been decided – you are going to move to a new home. You have already visited the new place with your family, you all agree that it is perfect, and you have made a good deal for it. What remains to be done is still a lot – moving homes can be one of the most difficult situations you will have to deal with in your life. According to many surveys, people find moving to be truly tiring, bothersome, and stressful.
Picture
The reality is such that moving can indeed be very difficult to pull off. There is a ton of things you have to consider and even more that can actually go wrong. There is a chaos of tasks you have to navigate through and it is easy to find yourself overwhelmed with them if you do not develop a plan. Follow these rules if you want to deal with everything before the moving service arrives.

•    Give yourself enough time to plan and research – as far as moving house is concerned this advice is probably the most important one you can get. If there is one thing you will need, it is time. This should not come as a surprise, because with so much to do during your removal you will soon find out that time is running out very fast. If you are forced to rush, chances are you are going to experience a great deal of stress and likely not do things in the right way. Once you know that moving house is going to occur in your life, start planning everything – possible dates, the time it is going to take you to pack plus several days in reserve just in case something unexpected occurs. When the moving van is parked outside your home, you will be glad if you took this advice.

•    Select the right moving company – If you are not able to move your own furniture, your best bet is to hire a moving service. Carefully research the market for a company that meets all of your needs. You also want to compare prices as they can greatly vary. Always ask for an estimate and if you can take advantage of any discounts. What you want is a reliable moving company that will not overcharge you and will bring all of your stuff to the new place.

•    Invest in good quality packing materials – Usually boxes work best, as they can be arranged easily in the removals van. Be mindful about the number of boxes you use, because you want to have enough for everything you are going to move. Consider if you require any specialized containers for glassware, clothes, electronics and other specialty items.
Picture
•    Pack and label carefully – If you don’t want to end up in a chaos zone once the movers unload your boxes, you should develop a strategy to pack them. Organize them in such a way that will allow you to find what you need once you arrive and arrange it in no time.

•    Take care of your valuables – You do not want to mix your valuables with other stuff in boxes. Keep money, important documents, and jewelry with you at all times so that you can keep an eye on them. Otherwise you might lose something valuable and really feel bad about it.

If you want to have a truly stress-free move, you should definitely take into account all of these tips. They will ensure that you do everything right and you do not lose time and effort in needless fretting.
